See Walter in action

Watch how Walter takes you from prototype to certified product in record time.

55 x 24.8mm. Every pin accessible.

Despite packing an ESP32-S3, a Sequans GM02SP modem, and five wireless technologies into a single module, Walter's footprint is just 55mm x 24.8mm, small enough to fit into almost any enclosure.

The ESP32-S3 allows any peripheral to be routed to any IO pin. No exposed strapping pins means you have complete freedom to layout your Walter-based board exactly as your design requires.

Walter IoT module size and pin layout
Walter IoT module low power deep sleep mode

9.8µA deep sleep. Ship devices that last in the field.

Walter uses an ultra high efficiency DC-DC converter for optimal power performance. With the ESP32-S3 in deep sleep and the GM02SP modem in PSM mode, total current draw is just 9.8µA, low enough to enable energy harvesting applications powered by solar, vibration, or thermal sources.

A MOSFET-switched, software-controllable peripheral power pin lets you completely cut power to attached sensors and devices when they are not needed, squeezing every last microamp out of your battery budget.

Good hardware needs good software

  • The ESP32-S3 Arduino core lets you get a prototype running fast. Our open source NB-IoT, LTE-M and GPS library for Arduino is production-grade and actively maintained.
  • MicroPython is fully supported on Walter. We actively contribute to the upstream ESP32 MicroPython project, so you always run the latest version without forks or patches.
  • When your project demands tight hardware control, the ESP-IDF toolchain gives you exactly that. With open source schematics, you are always in the driver's seat.
  • Zephyr RTOS support is available for teams that need a real-time operating system with a proven ecosystem for industrial and safety-critical applications.

"Cellular is gaining in popularity thanks to NB-IoT and LTE-M making it possible to leverage existing, secure infrastructure already deployed worldwide by operators, but adding cellular connectivity to an embedded design can be tedious and long, unless there was a module offering an almost plug and play solution… Introducing Walter!"

I connected it using a 1NCE SIM and 1NCE OS to Datacake and I can send and receive data. It also serves as a pin-compatible replacement for the discontinued Pycom GPy. Besides Python, you can also use Arduino to program this device. It works super great.

"What sets Walter apart is its inclusion of the Sequans GM02SP modem, offering LTE-M and NB-IoT 5G connectivity for low-power, wide-area communication, ideal for IoT applications. The modem also integrates a GNSS receiver, adding precise positioning capabilities for tasks like asset tracking, navigation, or geolocation."

"We have converted our GPy application over to Walter with good results. Key points include: Our hardware design has not changed. The Walter was a plug-in replacement for the GPy. Minor changes to the code were required due to different pin assignments.

One great improvement with Walter is the ability to reset the modem from the software directly. Another great feature is that we can now run the latest version of MicroPython unchanged with Walter (a fork is not required). Thanks for the great work!"
